Raw Material Inspection

Due to the reliability requirements demanded by Quallion’s medical, aerospace and military customers, the company has established a rigorous control of the materials used in our cells.  The commercial market for Li ion batteries drives the requirements for raw and component materials, and consequently material suppliers are frequently changing their processes and techniques to improve performance and reduce costs.  Such variability in supply poses a unique difficulty for customers in the aerospace industry because they typically need cell and battery suppliers to produce fixed designs for extensive periods of time, often exceeding 15 years from the date of initial qualification.  Moreover, prior cycle life performance is questionable unless the cell producer either uses the same lot of material (which is unlikely) or they sufficiently screen their incoming materials. Quallion’s quality control is uniquely geared to catch subtle variations in raw materials. Quallion also relies on its unique ties to Japanese material suppliers to custom produce smaller runs of material that duplicate prior practices. In this way, Quallion can assure the performance of future cell builds will match that of its earlier test cells. Such access to Japanese materials suppliers is unique to Quallion due to Dr. Tsukamoto’s historical Japanese ties.
